BOYDTON'S BICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION!
February 3, 2012, Boydton held its Bicentennial Birthday Party at the Boyd Tavern.
The ringing of the bells at the Courthouse by Thom Lipscomb & Mayor Gerald Wrenn announced the start of the celebration. People came into their front yards and out on the streets in front of their businesses to ring bells for Boydton's Birthday.
Ten candles were placed in each of the 20 cakes made by town citizens for all to enjoy. We sang happy birthday to Boydton and blew out the candles. Boydton's nonagenarians who had been born and raised in town were also recognized and received a rose and a certificate. Landon "Bumps" Carter, Boydton's eldest citizen at the age of 99 is seen below blowing out the candles on one of the many cakes.
The whole celebration was truly wonderful. It was amazing to see how many people from Boydton and the surrounding towns came out to help us celebrate our 200th birthday
