Boydton Grand Illumination & Local Art Exhibit 2011

Posted on 12/7/2011 by Brooks Lenhart

Many gathered in Herbert Park for the Grand Illumination of Boydton's Tree.

Many people from Boydton and surrounding areas gathered Monday, December 5, for the Grand Illumination. As a part of the celebration this year, students from Clarksville Elementary School's chorus came and sang Christmas carols for us. After the illumination of the tree in Herbert Park, the crown was invited to an art exhibit at the future site of our library, the old Hudgins Building.

"Eyes On Boydton," is just one of the many events the library is holding over the next several months as they prepare to move into their new building this spring. Six local artists participated in the art exhibit. Artists Ray Cherry and Kara Jo Smith brought their paintings of scenes from around the area. Dave Arnold provided his pen and ink sketches of Boydton landmarks and streetscapes. Amy Eason showed the final products of the process she uses to turn photographs into what appears to be sketches. And Walter Beales and Brooks Lenhart displayed fine art photograhpy of Boydton scenes.

The whole event was a success. Many thanks to the maintenance crew who set up and decorated the town's tree, the students and staff who came from Clarksville Elementary, the library staff for putting together such a wonderful exhibit, and the artists who shared their talents with the community.
