Boydton Day, the annual fall festival which became known when U.S. News and World Report (Nov. 21, 1977) called it “The Little Town that Refuses to Die”. And die it did not. In fact, Historic Boydton
completed a streetscape project that will help to revive its economic development and come alive again just as in the 40’s and 50’s and even further back during its illustrious “race horse” days. Boydton is located in the heart of Mecklenburg County, Virginia, just two miles from Kerr Lake, also known as Buggs Island Lake, which boasts some of the finest bass fishing on the east coast. As the county seat of Mecklenburg County, it claims one of the most beautiful, historic courthouses in the south. From its commanding position on the lush, green courthouse square, it is surrounded by vintage buildings and ancient old trees aflame in their gold and russet splendor of fall. What better way to end the summer and fall and usher in the winter than celebrating Boydton Day on October
27, 2007.
There will be live entertainment throughout the day, music, food, a puppet show, a parade with floats,
award-winning marching bands, horses, and – did we say food? Why some of the best food in the South can be found right here in Boydton,Virginia, on BOYDTON DAY from succulent, country-style fried fish, real country ham biscuits, deep-fried “fat back” rinds, and the best Brunswick Stew this side of Brunswick County, Virginia. For those with a more international palate, there are international food vendors and the usual hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries, and pastries such as funnel cakes. No menu is complete without the southern delicacies of homemade cakes, pies, fudge, brownies, and other home-cooked delights. Most of these recipes come from the kitchens of time honored Mecklenburg County cooks and family traditional recipes.
Music will be provided by the Navy Atlantic Fleet Band,
Tony T. and the
Midnight Movers, the
Blackridge Boys and R & R Entertainment. In addition there will be
vocalist performances by Renee Sokol, Kwaman Stevenson and Debbie Burgart.
