Harriett Beales Celebrates 97th Birthday

A special occasion was celebrated over the Memorial Day weekend

at the Beales home in Boydton. Mrs. Walter R. (Harriett) Beales Jr.,

surrounded by her five grandchildren from Richmond, marked her 97th birthday

(June 1st). Along with her sons, Walter R. Beales III, Randolph Beales and

wife Julie, were many visiting well wishers.

Congressman Tom Periello paid a visit to the town of Boydton on Monday January 25th where he conferred with members of the Boydton Medical Center. There, he had the opportunity to meet the medical center’s new executive director, Richard Melke and Bob Chadeane, a member of the board of directors.  Together, they reviewed the outstanding progress that the medical center has made over the last year. Also discussed, was the medical center’s near term support needs as well as some of its longer term plans for expansion and growth of services to the community.   Congressman  Periello indicated that there were a number of possible areas where his office could be of assistance and offered his full support. Left-to-right in the photo are Richard Melke, Congressman Periello, Bob Chadeane and Boydton Mayor Bob Salzmann.

Dr. Rachel Huot and HealthCare on the Square  Executive Director, Richard Melke discuss plans for their "Open House" December 7th, with Boydton Mayor Bob Salzmann. The "Open House" is being held in conjunction with Boydton's annual Christmas tree "Grand Illumination." The medical center staff will host guided tours of their facility from 5 - 7 P.M. They will also be serving hot cider and doughnuts in the center's  atrium.  The "Grand Illumination" program,an annual Boydton tradition, will commence at 6 P.M.  An exceptionally fine vocal and instrumental musical program is planned with a wide variety of local community talent to be enjoyed. The joint "Open House" and "Grand Illumination" program will be topped off with the ever-joyful lighting of the town's Christmas tree.  Everyone is invited to come and share this festive event.  It will take place under the medical center portico, just across the street from its traditional courthouse steps location (which is under major expansion and renovation). Come one, come all.  Enjoy the Christmas spirit and community fellowship.
