"Historic Boydton - Mecklenburg's Heart" |

HBR, Inc. Planning for Economic Development The Corporation is charged with revitalizing the town by enticing the new commercial interests through streetscape improvements, elimination of all blighting influences, restoration of building fronts, and filling currently vacant buildings with attractive retail outlets. An active Economic Restructuring & Development Committee is working hard to bring all of this to pass. HBR, Inc. Tapping into the Tourist Industry Restoring the historical appeal of the town is a vital part of the overall effort of HBR, Inc. Walking tours throughout the town, building a replica of the old Boydton Plank Road, enhancing and featuring the old historic buildings, from the 1842 Court House to the 1820 Boydton Presbyterian Church and the 1790 Boyd Tavern along with the 180 other historic structures in town, are aspects of the town which will help to develop a strong tourist draw. Boydton: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow In 2012, Boydton will celebrate the 200th anniversary of its charter as a town. The first recorded improvement was town council’s installation of oil lamps on the corners of courthouse square in 1874. Later decades brought prosperity and then decline. By the end of the 20th Century a major facelift was needed. A group of volunteers has established Historic Boydton’s Renaissance, Inc., a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization to revitalize the heart of Boydton and promote economic development. Government grants are providing a large portion of the funds needed to update the town’s water system, some façade improvement and the purchase of streetlamps. Amenities such as benches, landscaping and trash receptacles, however, need donations from individuals, groups, businesses, churches and community organizations. We would like to offer you an opportunity to give something special back to the place we call home. These gift items will result in making Boydton more attractive to residents and visitors alike. Where possible, an acknowledgement plate will be attached to the gift itself. Other donors will be listed on a plaque in Town Hall. For additional information call HBR, Inc., at (434) 738-0113, ext. 25. |
